👀 Player Watch Alert 👀

Wayne Ellington

The Pistons are led by Jerami Grant, Rose, and Griffin. However due to injuries, Rose and Griffin are not who they used to be and hold tertiary roles on this team. It’s Grant’s team and he is balling out right now looking to grab that max contract in the off season.

One player on the Pistons team that has been performing well as of late but is flying under the radar is Wayne Ellington. Ellington has been averaging 25 minutes over the season but has averaged 30 min over the past 4 games. He has scored high double digits in all 4 games, even surpassing 20 once. He is taking over 7 shots per game in the last 4 games whereas before he would be taking 7 shots or under.

Ellington is becoming one of Detroit’s go to players on offense and is hitting 58% of his non-three point attempts during the last 4 games. Ellington will likely regress because that FG efficiency is not sustainable, but adding him now and riding the hot hand will surely lead to extra points each week that could determine a matchup.

Injury Report

Trae Young 🤕

Young is having back spasms leading to a questionable tag for tonight’s game.

Pickups:

Kevin Huerter (SG, SF, 42% Rostered on ESPN)

Huerter is averaging 30 minutes a game, and scores double digit points on a nightly basis, and also gives you 4 rebounds and 4 assists and 2 three pointers made. He is a decent rental if Trae Young misses tonight and even more games next week.

Cam Reddish (SF, SG, 15% Rostered on ESPN)

Reddish has progressed a lot this year and is thriving on the Hawks so far. In 28 minutes, he is averaging 12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and a little under 2 three pointers made per game. He is also looking at a potentially increased usage tonight if Young were to sit this game and the next few games.

De’Andre Hunter 🤕

Hunter has had a great start to the season and he is currently dealing with a knee issue so he is also questionable for tonight’s game. In case he does not start, these are the main pickups:

Pickups:

Same as pickups with Trae Young: Kevin Huerter, and Cam Reddish

🎯 Accuracy Check 🎯

In this segment, I will go back and revisit some of my pickups from this past week and see which ones pan out and which ones don’t. This will hold me accountable and show you guys that the guys I suggest are more based in logical reasoning instead of guesses.

Jae’Sean Tate 🎯

Tate was someone I mentioned to pick up for the Rockets back to back as a streamer due to Wall being out.

In that one night I mentioned to pick him up, he had 13 points, 3 blocks, 3 steals, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, went 5–8 from the field, and made 2 three pointers)

He struggled the next night because Wall came back to play and Tate’s usage shrank but Tate was a good pickup while Wall, Dipo, and Wood were all out.

DeMarcus Cousins 🎯

Cousins went crazy last night after I mentioned to pick him up.

With Wood out, he scored 28 points, had 5 assists, 17 rebounds, went 9–15 from the field and had 4 three pointers!

Overall a fantastic performance, and this was all due to Wood being out and if you managed to grab Cousins then you were very very happy with his performance last night.

Kelly Olynyk 🎯

Olynyk was a player I mentioned to pick up when Butler and Herro were out. In that game, he scored 15 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds, went 5–10 from the field, and made 2 three pointers. Not bad!

Every Sunday I will conduct this accuracy check to see if I am doing a good job and to give ya’ll proof that this newsletter is the best way to figure out the best waiver wire pickups due to injury, covid, or to stream!

Fantasy Leaders and Losers:

*The fantasy points listed below are determined by following ESPN’s default scoring format.

Leaders: 🤴

  1. Bam Adebayo: 73 fantasy points (statline: 38 minutes, 41 points, 5 reb, 9 assists, 1 steal, 14–20 from the field)
I wonder what the data would look like for big men playing regularly during the season versus playing against the nets. Not to take away from Bam’s dominant night, but the Nets having no interior defense definitely sways towards Big men feasting in fantasy.

Bam, one of the few big men who can pass and playmake, has shown his dominance last night by being the second player in Miami heat history to score 40 points while under the age of 23, following only Dwyane Wade (No, I didn’t mispell Dwyane Wade, go look it up smh. The Mandela effect is real..I know)

2. Anthony Davis: 66 fantasy points (statline: 28 minutes, 37 points, 6 reb, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 14–21 from the field)
Interesting to see Davis not getting many rebounds but still putting up dominant fantasy performances and even dominant performances in real life. One interesting statistic is this year Davis is rebounding at an all career low (except for his rookie year) but shooting 3’s at a much more prolific rate! I guess you sacrifice rebounds when you can sink threes 38% completion rate, and I’m sure LeBron is more than happy with that if AD is able to continue his style of play like this.

3. Chris Paul: 59 fantasy points (statline: 42 minutes, 21 points, 13 assists, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, 9–20 from the field)
CP3, the point god, has turned the suns around. He’s made them much more competitive than last year and Ayton is starting to show glimpses of what we expected of him. This is due to CP3’s mentorship and guidance. Booker is slightly underperforming but I think he just needs to gel with CP3 more and adjust to the decreased usage he is seeing now.

Loser:

  1. Kelly Oubre Jr.: 2 fantasy points 🤮 (statline: 24 minutes, 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2–8 from the field)
Besides for blowing kisses on the court, Oubre is making a name for himself for underperforming consistently this season. He spent 24 minutes on the ground and put up this measly statline leads me to believe Kerr wanted him running around just to get some cardio in. Oubre is frustrating because you want to drop him, and I want to say to drop him, but I still think he can bounce back. This is the textbook definition of a toxic relationship. If Oubre does not bounce back in the next week or so or atleast give some confidence he is going to bounce back, I’d personally drop him and recommend you all do the same.
